1) Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday!

It's that time of year to move your clocks forward. Sure you're losing an hour of sleep, but you're gaining an hour of sunlight. So be sure to spring ahead Sunday so that you won’t miss your train on Monday!

Ever wonder why Daylight Savings Time exists? Some people claim energy conservation or Daylight Savings Time's contribution in the reduction of violent crime.

2) Reminder - Metrocheks No Longer Accepted after March 20th

The last day for purchasing VRE Tickets with Metrocheks will be March 20th. After this date only SmartBenefits Vouchers will be accepted.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) began replacing Metrocheks with SmartBenefits vouchers on December 1, 2008.

These new paper transit subsidies do not have magnetic strips on the back and cannot be used in the Metrorail system. However, the new vouchers, available in $1, $10 and $30 denominations, can be used to purchase VRE fare just like Metrocheks.

VRE will also honor the vouchers with the ticket vending machine (TVM) reimbursement program that we have for Metrocheks. In essence, VRE will treat the paper vouchers exactly as we treat Metrocheks; they’ll just look different.

Again, after March 20, 2009, VRE (and its vendor network) will only accept the SmartBenefits vouchers.

To learn more about SmartBenefits, please visit http://www.vre.org/service/metrochek3.htm, or http://www.vre.org/service/smartbenefits/faq.html.
